You need careful planning to ensure your upcoming Schengen stay or vacation is safe, wonderful and worry-free. This includes key factors like choosing the right Schengen travel medical insurance policy that provides comprehensive coverage across your travel destinations. We advise you to consider the following factors while buying Schengen travel insurance online:
You need to compare coverages offered by different Schengen travel insurance plans to make an informed decision. Remember that it is mandatory to have a minimum travel medical insurance of EUR 30,000 to get a Schengen Visa. Besides this, you should look for an international travel insurance policy that covers passport loss, baggage delay, baggage loss, flight delay, trip cancellation or interruptions and more.
Your Schengen travel insurance premium is affected by several elements. These include the travel destination, the length of your stay, sum insured, the type of travel insurance, number of travellers and their age. It is important to understand that a cheap Schengen travel insurance plan may not provide the best coverage. You need to compare different international travel medical insurance plans for Schengen before making a decision.
If you are planning to visit only one country in the Schengen area, then it’s okay to buy an international travel insurance policy for that destination only. However, you need to buy a travel insurance plan that covers all the countries in the Schengen area if your itinerary includes stays in multiple Schengen countries. Carefully check your Schengen travel insurance policy as some plans have limitations on certain countries.
Many popular travel destinations like Maldives, Qatar and Indonesia provide visas on arrival to Indians. But you need to apply for a Schengen Visa if you want to visit any of the 29 Schengen countries. One pre-requisite for the Schengen Visa application process is having an overseas travel insurance plan with a minimum medical coverage of EUR 30,000. You need to ensure that your Schengen travel insurance plan aligns with this requirement to get your visa approved.
Check online reviews shared by customers about their experience with the insurance company’s buying process, coverages and claim process. This will give you an idea of how the insurer delivers on its promise of securing your trip. For example, you can look for positive reviews and ratings about customer support. Choose a company with a proven track record of reliability, customer satisfaction and seamless claim settlement.
Multiple factors influence your Schengen travel insurance premium. These factors include:
1. Covers Selected: Your premium is influenced by the extent of your coverage limit. For example, you choose a plan that has a high sum insured for medical expenses and other trip-related contingencies. The premium for such plans will be higher than the basic plans.
2. Age of the Travellers: Age is one of the critical factors impacting your international travel insurance premium. Usually, the premium for young travellers is lower than the premium for senior citizens as they have potentially lower health-related conditions and risks.
3. Duration of Your Stay: Your Schengen travel insurance premium is also affected by the number of days you will be travelling or staying in the Schengen area. Longer stays may lead to higher premiums due to the longer period of risk exposure.
4. Travel Destination: Different countries have different healthcare costs and risk-inducing factors. Your overseas travel insurance premium will vary depending on the Schengen countries you plan to visit.
